Cashmere is the fine undercoat combed from a goat. There is no specific breed named “cashmere”. It is the down found in 68 breeds of goats found in 12 different countries. Most cashmere comes from Asia, particularly China. It produces an extremely fine, sleek yarn with an elegant drape.

Alpacas are members of the camelid family and originate in the Andes Mountains in South America. Alpaca fiber is long and fine. It is shinier, smoother, stronger and several times warmer than wool.

Camel down is the soft warm inner down of a bactrian camel with a fiber structure similar to cashmere. Bactrian camels have two humps and stand about 7 to 9 feet tall. Their life span is 40 to 50 years.

Llama fiber is long and fine. Like alpaca it is a hollow fiber so it is warmer than wool of the same weight.

A Yak is a member of the bovine family. They live mainly in Qinghai and Tibet plateau. Yak Fiber is soft and smooth. It is combed or shed from the yak and then dehaired. The result is a splendid downy fiber.

Angora is a very soft, fluffly, light and warm fiber. Angora is slippery and often blended with wool. It is shed, combed or shaved from rabbits.

Cashgora is a crossbreed between a cashmere and angora goat. This is a truly luxury fiber with an excellent luster and easy to spin.
